Dot Coms are Park Avenues of Web Real Estate |
|||||||
Why does everyone want dot com? The domains that
fall within *.com are highly desired because the com extension
has been widely accepted by the general public as a universal locator
for businesses on the web. Com was the first root that was allowed
for commerce, although today you can transact business under *.org or
*.net. The *.com is international, and although people from most
nations can also use their own roots (e.g., *.fr, *.uk, *.de, *.us) they
are drawn primarily to one of the international domain roots, of which
the dot com is preeminent. There are over 200 country codes, but
in aggregate they represent a small part of registered domain names.
The bulk are dot coms. Dot com is the Park Avenue of cyber real
estate.
When you're talking to your clients on the phone, explaining to them how to spell your domain name, wouldn't you rather just tell them, http://mycompany.com ? If that's what you want, you need a host. All hosting accounts offered by Open Veld are based on having your own domain, with your own IP address, not fake virtual hosting, but full virtual hosting. The exception is our parking plan, the UniWeb, which is not a full virtual hosting, but it does give you a single page (which we can set up for a nominal charge), e-mail forwarding, and your own graphics and text. The UniWeb Parking plan is the fastest and cheapest way of getting your own dotcom, or dotnet, or dotorg on the web, and it can be upgraded later for free to one of our regular hosting plans. |
