All domains must be point to a IP address. Let's
say you have used our Domain Lookup
and discovered your desired domain is available. Theoretically you
can register your domain by using someone else's IP address, but as soon
as Network Solutions or one of the other ICANN registrars discovers it,
you may find yourself no longer owning a domain. It's a little like
when the police discover a car in a no-parking zone.
There
is little point in paying to host a domain name before you're ready to
use it. But if you have a domain name you want to use at
some time in the future, there's a big point in registering it now.
That way it will be available when you design your web site. This
is where domain parking comes in.
For only $25
we will register your available domain name (*.com, *.net, or *.org) and
park it for free for two years. If you later decide to host it with
Open Veld, you will not have to pay any additional setup fee, just the
monthly hosting fee. If you later decide to host it with someone
else, you may have to pay a setup fee, although many hosts waive the setup
fee for transfers.
Special
features of parked domains at Open Veld Although your parked
domain will not have its own unique IP address, and there is nothing that
you can do directly to modify it as a web site, it does provide some nifty
features. For a small additional cost, usually $25, we will set
you up with a one-page pseudo-web. Anyone visiting http://yourcompany.com
will see a web page. You must supply the text and three image(s)
up to a total of not more than 100 KB. We will enable your pseudo-web
using links to your files on our server.
Parked
Domains also provide e-mail forwarding Another nice feature
is that you can have e-mail forwarded through your parked domain address.
For example, you can have all mail addressed to a single name, e.g. presidente@yourcompany.com
forwarded to one address that you designate. You can also have all
other mail forwarded to a second address. You can configure that
yourself, and change it anytime you like from your control panel.
Compare
the prices for advertising How big a spot can you get in
the Yellow Pages for $60 per year? How big an ad can you get in
the newspaper for $1.20 per week? Those examples are your actual
cost for having a one-page domain on the web through Open Veld.
($25 setup fee, plus $70 you pay to Network Solutions, plus another $25
if you decide you want us to set up a one-page pseudo-web with your text
and up to three images that you provide. E-mail forwarding included!
$120 for two years works out to $60 per year, or about $1.20 per week.)
If you decide later to have us host you, great. There will be no
setup fee for upgrading. If you want us to design a full-blown web
site for you and manage the site, we love your additional business.
If you want to be your own web designer, the hosted plans will give you
a control panel and FTP access, or Microsoft FrontPage2000 extensions
if you prefer, at no additional charge. The site will be yours to
manage, if you like. If you want to have us register you now so
you can move your domain to some other host, it is your domain, and you
are the administrative contact, so you can do anything you want with it.
Many hosts (including Open Veld) do not charge a setup fee for domain
transfers. Though we'll try to keep you happy in the Open Veld.
